Steel, Wood, Foam, Mesh
Droid is made of two major elements: the upholstered seat and the tripod legs. The seat was constructed as a simple plywood barrel that was then upholstered. The mesh fabric exterior reveals the underlying complex shape. Steel tensioning rings coupled with elastic bands tighten its geometric volume. The legs were composed of bent steel rods welded onto a base plate that connects to the seat bottom. The rounded wood feet were turned on the lathe and then sleeved onto the rods. Future iterations of Droid will come in a variety of materials including anodized aluminum and perforated leather.
